Excessive skin pigmentation can be from number of causes including sun exposure, hormones, skin trauma & congential. Pigmentation can be treated with lasers, IPL (intense pulse light) skin needling & lightening creams. The mode of treatment used will be dependent on the type of pigmentation, client preference, & client risk tolerance.
Lighten with IPL.
Pigmenation can be classified into epidermal (superficial), dermal (deep), and mixed. Different lasers are used for different types of skin pigmentation & skin types. UV protection/sunscreen is paramount in the treatment of pigmentation. Pigmented lesions such as age spots & freckles can be successfully lightened or removed with IPL. However, with Melasma, even in those that get a good result from treatment, pigmentation may reappear on exposure to summer sun and/or because of hormonal factors it can be effectively cleared but can’t be cured.
